Prescription Drug Abuse
Many of us have over the counter medicine or prescribed medicine at home usually in a cabinet where it can be found whenever we have a cold or a cough, but how many of us actually know what we are taking? What are side effects we can experience when taking these medicines? We must be aware not because these medicines are prescribed your doctor make them safe to consume. It is our duty to be aware of the things we are consuming, and it is our doctor's duty to take care of our health. Don't be afraid to ask questions it is their job to responsible for you.
What problem, issue, or policy did you work on and what did you learn about it?
Our problem was accidental overdose on prescription drugs. We wanted to spread the word on how dangerous it can be when you are not informed about the medication you are taking. Many people give their full trust in doctors and do not fully research the medication they are given. Also they might take more than is necessary, which can cause addiction. We realized that addiction might not always be on purpose but sometimes by accident. Enforcing the policy that doctors must inform their clients fully about their medication is greatly needed. Also, limiting accessibility is needed. Pharmacies are now holding restrictions on most prescribed drugs but should be enforcing their restrictions and maybe even background checks also, depending on the drug. The policy of doctors being checked up every year should also be modified by changing it to randomly twice a year. We thought overdose on prescription drugs was either just the cause of the client wanting to overdose or the doctor giving wrong drugs, but really it can be that and by accident. Many people have taken more pills of a certain drug to rush the effect and get rid of their pain, little do they know that the drugs reaction will come 10x stronger. Many people are unaware of their medications and don't bother researching them because they trust their doctors fully.
